Tonje Kjellevold, managing editor of The Vessel (Norwegian Crafts)
The Vessel 10 HOME is the first issue to launch in a series of three themed issues focusing on spaces integral to the contemporary crafts field: the home, the garden, and the studio. Three often connected spaces that allow for a thorough investigation into the ways crafts and making permeate our daily lives. The next two issues in the series will launch in spring and autumn 2026 respectively, and will feature different editors, selected from open calls (subscribe to our newsletter to be notified of them!).
HOME is edited by Charlotte Jul and Ida Marie Nissen. Their vision of home is about creativity, intentionality, and personality. The essays and interviews in this issue focus on the role home plays in the creative relationship between a maker and their surroundings. Here, home is presented as a private world that can sustain creation and adapt alongside its inhabitants.
The issue is yet another testament to the ubiquity of craft – present at every stage, from building a house to furnishing it – and to the importance of mindful materialism: truly knowing and loving what you own, because it enriches your life.
We wish to thank the editors Charlotte Jul and Ida Marie Nissen and all contributing writers: Cecilie Tyri Holt, Henriette Noermark, Marie-Louise Høstbo and Ine Vik.
Thank you also to all the craft artists, designers and creatives who have contributed to the contents of this issue: Elisa Helland-Hansen, Ine Vik, Heidi Bjørgan, Joar Nango, Marthe Elise Stramrud, Hélène Andersen, Hanne Friis, Lene Bødker, Monica Flakk, Pernille Pontoppidan Pedersen, Mimi Jung, Carl Emil Jacobsen, Muller Van Severen, Karen Kviltu Lidal, Kristine Bjaadal, Sayed Sattar Hasan, Erlend Leirdal, Kristine Five Melvær, Jad El Khoury, Karen Bennicke, Estelle Bourdet, Nellie Jonsson, Mette Saabye and Kari Håkonsen.
The Vessel is published by Norwegian Crafts and would not be possible without funding and support from the Norwegian Ministry of Culture and Equality, and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We are also very grateful to have support from the Scheibler Foundation (Stiftelsen Scheibler) for this issue.
We hope you enjoy The Vessel 10 HOME!
