Jens Erland
Jens Erland (b. 1945) is a Norwegian ceramic artist who lives and works in Bryne, Norway. He is considered one of the most prominent figures within his field due to his innovative artistic practice that combines ceramic and industrial materials into sculptures and objects. Erland is engaged with the contrast between the dynamic stoneware expression and the more formal idiom.
Erland holds his education from the National College of Art and Design in Bergen. His work has been widely exhibited in Norway and internationally. He is represented in the collection of, among others, the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo, the National Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Trondheim, Stavanger Art Museum, and Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum in Tromsø. In 2001, he won the Special Prize in the 1. World Ceramic Biennale, Korea. He was also rewarded The Norwegian Association for Arts and Crafts’ Honorary Award in 2017.
