Káren Elle Gaup
Káren Elle Gaup is the curator of the Sámi collection at Norsk Folkemuseum. She has a master’s degree in folklore from the University of Oslo. Before coming to Norsk Folkemuseum she was the museum manager for RiddoDuottarMuseat in Finnmark. Since 2014 she’s managed the Bååstede – repatriation of Sámi cultural heritage project which saw the return of some over 1600 objects from the Museum of Cultural History’s and Norsk Folkemuseum’s Sámi collection to six Sámi museums in Norway. Gaup’s interest centre on culture and traditions and how it can provide a deeper understanding of people, animals, and the environment. Káren Elle Gaup co-edited the inaugural issue of The Vessel.
