Hanne Friis (born in Oslo, 1972) builds on, and challenges the textile tradition through tactile, handmade and sculptural works. Her works are characterised by contrasts – between the hideous and the beautiful, between the artificial and the natural. The textiles are sewn by hand in a characteristic stitching technique, giving the material a compact and sculptural expression. Besides extensive exhibition activity in Norway, she regularly exhibits her works in Europe and the USA. Recent exhibitions include Hanne Friis, Lynda Benglis atLocks Gallery, Philadelphia, 2024, and solo exhibitions at Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg, 2024, The Tower Room, KODE Art Museum, Bergen, 2024 and The Vigeland Museum, Oslo, 2022. Friis has worked with public commissions and is represented by several public and private collections in Norway.

Hanne Friis lives and works in Oslo, Norway.
