Toril Johannessen

Toril Johannessen (b. 1978) is a Norwegian artist who works methodically and research-based across different media such as prints, graphics, textiles, text, and installation. In her work, historical data and personal investigations intersect which gives rise to a recurring theme in her practice: the impact of historical conditions and technological developments on modes of perception.

Johannessen holds a MA in Fine Art from Bergen National Academy of the Arts in Norway. Her work has been widely exhibited across the world in numerous solo- and group exhibitions. She is also represented in the collections of KODE Bergen Art Museum in Bergen, the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo, Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum in Tromsø, and Isabel and Agustín Coppel collection in Mexico – to name a few. In 2013, Johannessen was awarded the Artist Award of the City of Bergen.
