Ahmed Umar (b. 1988) is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Norway. They came to Norway as a political refugee in 2008 and has since then graduated from Oslo National Academy of the Arts with a BA in Printmaking (2011-2014) and a MA in Fine Art – specialising in medium- and material-based art (2014-2016). Despite storytelling being the foundation of their work, Umar recognises materials as agents of action and chooses the material accordingly to the story. Their work possesses historical, political, activistic and autobiographical traits.

Umar’s work has been widely exhibited/performed in Norway and internationally – both in solo- and group exhibitions at, among others, Oslo Kunsthall (Oslo, Norway), Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum (Trondheim, Norway), Last Frontiere NYC (New York, USA), and Künstlerhaus Palais Thurn und Taxis (Bergenz, Austria).
