Maria Viirros is a tattooist and a visual artist from Finland. They received their master’s degree from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts’ Department of Art and Craft, with a project which inspected tattooing as a tool for accessing, archiving, and mediating social identity and community relations during the contemporary era of post-colonial unravelling. They are interested in encounters between humans, and how processes of making can foster a sense of bodily ownership and authentic separatism.

Viirros has tattooed in studios across Europe, and their object-based work has been shown at exhibitions such as Høstutstillingen (2019) and De Unga at Kunsthalle Helsinki (2019). In 2023, Viirros published a tattoo-specific artist journal titled AI-FLASH - Contemporary Perspective on the Art of Tattooing.

Maria Viirros was the guest editor for the seventh issue of The Vessel titled Transforming Bodies.
