Franz Petter Schmidt (b. 1969) is a textile artist based in Oslo, Norway. Schmidt’s practice connects the experiences of both hand weaving and industrial textile production, which emphasizes his interest in history and material culture. Concerned with the concept of quality, and questions regarding tradition and cultural heritage, his work is often based on studies of archival material.

In 2018, Franz Petter Schmidt defended his doctoral thesis at Oslo National Academy of the Arts, with the title Weaving Fabrics for Suits, where he also serves as professor of textile art.
