Anne Karine Thorbjørnsen (b. 1982) lives and works in Elverum, Norway. She graduated with a master’s degree from Central Saint Martins in London in 2012 where she set up her own practice, before moving to Norway in 2015.

At the heart of her practice is drapery. The content of her practice revolves around changing traditional ideas of the feminine and mainstream representations of femininity, with their accompanying sense of ‘otherness’. Thorbjørnsen works to challenge the aesthetic, the use and allure of drapery. In 2019 her practice underwent a change of direction. Having been active in the fashion industry, with all its deadlines and formats, she adopted a freer approach, exploring the space between fashion, arts, and craft.

She has exhibited at Diorama (Oslo), Center for Style (Melbourne), Amaze (Stockholm), The Community (Paris), Salgshallen (Oslo) and upcoming Oppland Kunstsenter (Lillehammer). Her work has been purchased by the National Museum Oslo, Buskerund Kunstsenter, and by various private collectors.
